Staff Spotlight: Kim Knott

Kim Knott, Kitchen Supervisor at Faribault Middle School

What are some of your hobbies and interests?
Playing pool, cooking, camping, nature walks, playing cards, and anything with family.

What’s something interesting about you that not a lot of people know?
That I went to classes to learn how to do dialysis at home for my husband while he waited for a kidney/pancreas transplant.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in school food service?
When my kids were younger it was the perfect job for me, being a single mother after their dad passed away, and I love to cook.

What do you enjoy most about working with students?
Knowing the students are getting well balanced meals and giving them many choices so they can find something they like everyday.  Being able to have a quick chat with them as they go through the lunch line.

What do you enjoy about being part of Faribault Public Schools?

Having the challenge to make the best food possible for the students and staff. The best is having the satisfaction of a student outside of school seeing you and saying, "Hi, you're my lunch lady. Thank you for all the good food you make" and still remembering years later. It puts a smile on my face every time.
